Recent advancement in nanoscience and nanotechnology has given us scope for developing biomimetic and biocompatible nanoparticles/nanomaterials using natural products. Nanoparticles/nanomaterials exhibit remarkable physicochemical and biological properties, which are completely distinct from their bulk materials, making them ideal candidates for biological applications. The plant, microorganisms, and biopolymers-based nanoparticles/nanomaterials are highly advantageous as compared to those involving chemical reductants. The biological synthesis method uses eco-friendly solvents and non-toxic chemicals and thereby helps in minimizing the release of hazardous wastes to the environment. In recent years, a major threat to humans is widespread microbial infections and mosquito-borne parasitic diseases. In addition, dreadful diseases like cancer have become more common and bring huge mortality to human populations. Many of the currently available growth inhibitory agents and chemotherapeutics are too expensive, cause drug resistance, and numerous side effects. In this scenario, it is of utmost importance to develop novel therapeutic agents that are cost-effective, safe, and without any side effects. The development of biological nanoparticles/nanomaterials either from plants, microorganisms, or biopolymers is the need of the hour. Most of the newly developed bio nanoparticles/bionanomaterials are promising and have significantly contributed to preventing ailments.
This Research Topic aims to include the synthesis, physicochemical characterization, in vitro and in vivo evaluation of the anti-microbial, anti-biofilm, anti-quorum sensing, anti-viral, anti-infective, and anti-cancer properties of bio nanoparticles/bionanomaterials, as well as their application in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases.
Under this broad theme, we welcome original research contributions and reviews, which fall within the following scope:
-Synthesis of bio nanoparticles/bionanomaterials and assessing their anti-microbial, anti-biofilm, anti-quorum sensing, anti-viral and anti-infective properties.
-Synthesis of different nanoformulations for drug delivery in diverse disease models.
-Application of bio nanoparticles/bionanomaterials to treat cancer, flu, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and other parasitic diseases of public health importance.
-Studies involving the molecular mechanism of the therapeutic potential of bio nanoparticles/bionanomaterials.
-Synthesis and application of bio nanoparticles/bionanomaterials in the diagnosis of diseases.
Apart from this above scope, we also welcome various research contributions related to another therapeutic potential of bio nanoparticles/bionanomaterials.
